CFA Level 1

In order to receive the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst®, or CFA, you must pass the CFA comprehensive exam process. This test is administered by the CFA Institute, an international organization committed to the ongoing certification of financial professionals. This exam is exceedingly tough, with most test takers failing the first of three required sections.

For Level 1 of the CFA exam, the pass rates vary by country, with European test takers faring better (with a 57 percent pass rate) than American CFA exam takers (with a 40 to 43 percent pass rate). However, the worldwide average is below both of these, at a mere 34 percent. Levels 2 and 3 are easier by comparison, as more than half of test takers typically pass these statistically.
